Chicco MyFit Review

If your child is ready to move out of their rear-facing seat and you’re searching for a forward-facing harness-to-booster option that will truly go the distance, the Chicco MyFit is a seat worth considering. With an impressively tall height limit and harness height to match, a slim profile perfect for tight spaces, and a no-nonsense install, it’s the kind of car seat that makes life a little easier.

If you’re new here, hi – I’m Sam! (Maybe better known as ChatCPST!) I’m a CPST, mom of four, and an expert in all things car seats. My passion is to demystify the car seat selection overwhelm and help you choose the right seat for your family, budget, and car.

Let’s walk through what makes this combination seat stand out and what to keep in mind when deciding if it’s the right fit for your family.

What I Love About The Chicco MyFit

  • Extra-tall harness limits (up to 54" standing and 19.5" harness height!) — ideal for tall kids who would otherwise outgrow other seats early.

  • Narrow design (17.5"): works extremely well in tight backseats and three-across setups.

  • Harness = no digging for seat belts: especially helpful when three-across makes access tight.

  • ClearTex fabric option: a great choice for families wanting to avoid added chemical FRs.

  • Chicco’s signature user-friendliness: installation is straightforward, and the manual is easy to follow.

The Chicco MyFit Is A Combination Car Seat

The Chicco MyFit is what’s known as a combination seat: it starts off as a forward-facing harnessed seat and later converts into a high-back booster. This type of seat is great for kids who have outgrown their rear-facing convertible seat and are at least age 2, meeting the minimum weight and height requirements for forward-facing.

PRO TIP: As your family grows, it usually makes the most sense to pass down your existing convertible seat to your youngest child and purchase a forward-facing harness-to-booster for your oldest — rather than using your current convertible seat in forward-facing mode and needing to buy a second (expensive) convertible for your youngest.

Does the Chicco MyFIT Work for Tall Kids?

One of the Chicco MyFit’s biggest advantages is how tall-kid-friendly it is! While most combination seats max out at 49" for harnessed use, the MyFit allows a child to remain harnessed all the way up to 54" tall—the tallest standing height limit available for any combination seat currently on the market.

Here’s why that matters for tall kids:

  • Extended height limit – Harness use up to 54" tall (vs. 49" in most other seats).

  • Higher harness slots – Top harness slot height of 19.5", giving taller-torso kids more room.

  • Delayed booster transition lets families keep kids harnessed safely for longer until they’re truly ready for a booster.

What I Would Change (and why this seat might NOT work for you)

No seat belt tensioner:  you’ll still need to pull hard during installation, even with the built-in lock-off.

  • Limited vehicle compatibility: this seat generally requires removable vehicle headrests. If your car has fixed head restraints, it may not be a good fit. There are exceptions: for example, a one-piece vehicle seat back and head restraint is acceptable for installation.

If you have questions about your installation, ask Chat CPST! ChatCPST allows you to ask me, an experienced and qualified CPST, any car seat-related questions, and I’ll recommend the best options for your specific car and situation. I’ll take the guesswork out and guide you through your entire setup.

The Chicco MyFit Installation & Fit

Like most Chicco seats, the MyFit has a pretty intuitive installation process. It features a built-in lock-off for seat belt installation, which helps get a snug fit without needing to lock the vehicle belt separately. That said, it doesn’t include a seat belt tensioner, so while the lock-off makes things easier, you’ll still need to use some muscle to get everything secure.

Does the Chicco MyFit Permit Locking the Seat Belt After Installation?

Yes, the Chicco MyFit does permit locking (commonly referred to as soft-locking) the seat belt after installation if you’re worried about a child playing with the seat belt.

Chicco MyFit’s Narrow Build is a Big Win for Families

Now let’s talk width because this is where the MyFit really earns gold. At just 17.5 inches wide, it’s one of the narrowest combination seats out there. That makes it an excellent choice for three-across configurations, where space is often extremely limited.

This is where the Chicco MyFit comes to the rescue:

  • It uses a 5-point harness, so there’s no need to fish around for buried buckles.

  • The harness is accessible right from the front, making it easier for both kids and parents.

  • In tight three-across setups, this saves time, hassle, and frustration on every ride.

Chicco MyFit’s ClearTex Fabric Option

If your family is mindful about FR-free options, you’ll be glad to know that the MyFit is also available in Chicco’s ClearTex fabric, which is free of added chemical flame retardants. This fabric still meets federal fire safety standards, just without the added chemical FRs.
