2024 BMW X7 Car Review

We are in for a treat today with a tour of a brand new mid-size luxury SUV - the 2024 BMW X7! Despite being less than halfway through 2023, the 2024 version has been released and is a complete redesign to the traditional X7 and today on the blog, I’m taking you inside and showing you ALL it has to offer.

If you’re interested in the BMW X7, here are a few others I would consider as well.

By the end of this post, you’ll have a solid idea of every aspect of the 2024 BMW X7 and how it measures up in the luxury mid-size vehicle category. Let’s dive in

Before we dive in, have you heard that The Car Mom Auto Show is back?! Yes, an auto show for Women! The Car Mom Auto Show offers families the opportunity to browse over 20 different popular family vehicles in a hands-on, non-salesy environment. Attendees will enjoy VIP activations (meet Kelly!), shop local boutiques, food, fun, playground for the kids and take advantage of some Mom Time Off (MTO!)

BMW X7 Exterior

The exterior is beautiful and, in my opinion, is one of the most stunning cars on the road. The chrome grill on the front is sleek, but what I notice most of all is the headlights. Over the years, BMW’s headlights have made great improvements and are now full LED.

Looking at the side profile, it’s a super sporty SUV, with the X7 being the largest of the models- including a third row perfect for families. That being said, it’s not too long of a car, but a great mid-size option. The chrome detail present in the front blends throughout the sides on both the top and doors. It really adds to the luxury feel.

Overall, the BMW X7 exterior is really high-end and sophisticated- I’m absolutely here for it!

2024 BMW X7 Car Review For Moms And Families

BMW X7 First Row Details

While the second and third row are important priorities for a family car, so is the first row! The BMW X7 has a gorgeous passenger and driver seat with a sunroof and all the amenities you need. Here are the details broken down:

Driver Seat Door Panel

The entire car is equipped with the Harman Kardon sound system, which is one of my favorites in all cars because of how crisp the sound is.

The styling of the door is beautiful and truly adds to the luxury experience a BMW gives. Cup holders on each door fit traditional drinks, but larger water bottles (those 40 oz. Stanleys) may have to be in the center console.

Seats

I will try to limit the amount of times I say lux, but this BMW X7 truly is. The quilted seats are so comfortable and the sport-style continues in the shape of both the driver and passenger seats. It almost feels like a hug.

Infotainment System

The curved touch-screen display in the 2024 version combines the dash and actual infotainment system to create a seamless view that’s so cool.

Like many 2024 models, the BMW X7 has a heads-up display, but I think it's superior in this car. Everything is clear, easy-to-read, and works flawlessly with the controls on the wheel.

Although I personally don’t love climate controls in the infotainment system, this one is way more user-friendly than others I’ve seen.

Wireless chargers, USB ports, and extra storage are included at the base of the system.

BMW X7 Second Row Details

After sitting in the second row, I can say as a taller woman the head and knee clearance is very comfortable. The luxury experience does continue the further back we get in the X7 and there are a lot of amenities to go through.

A few amenities in the second row to note:

  • Side door air conditioning vents

  • USB plugs on the backs of the first row chairs AND a mount for iPads if desired

  • Heated seats

  • Climate control

  • Deep side cubby

  • Power sun shades

Second Row Bench

The X7 comes in both a bench and captain’s chair option, but I wanted to test the three across capabilities for myself. To truly put the bench to the test, I picked up my kids from daycare. For my car seat combination (and I will say most out there), three across was impossible.

The middle seat was just too small because the bench has a 60:40 split. 60% of the seats are on the driver side (30% for the left, 30% for the middle), leaving 40% of the overall bench size for the right seat. It’s really common to see one bench seat larger than the other, but two big car seats next to each other did not fit.

With a BMW being a luxury car, every aspect of it is powered- including folding the second row seating. While it feels quite luxurious, I just prefer a level because of its simplicity. The buttons are a tad clunky and it feels slow to tilt back and access that third row.

BMW X7 Third Row Details

Although the second row was lacking for car seats, the third row really impressed me. Both seats have their own lower and tether anchors, so there are still some great places to put car seats. The problem you may run into is accessing it. What did make up for it is having two seats in the back. Three seats are just too uncomfortable, but two is the perfect amount of room.

The third row has all the second row amenities, plus there is direct air flow on the ceiling and a sun roof. I almost like the third row better than the second- if there was more leg room.

BMW X7 Trunk Details

With the third row up, there is an okay amount of trunk space. It’s not the greatest, but not the worst for cars I’ve seen in a similar class.

I love the split tailgate in all BMW’s and there is a good amount of space in the cubby under the trunk as well. There may be enough room for a singular stroller in the back with the third row up, but not a double.

BMW X7 Wrap-Up

Overall, the BMW X7 is a stunning car that is luxury quality. It’s not the most car seat friendly, but also not the least on the market. The third row really impressed me, especially with the amenities available. The mid-size luxury category is really competitive, but I think the BMW X7 is a solid option.
