2022 Toyota Sienna

Who’s ready to walk through one of the most classic family cars on the market? If you know me, you know I love a minivan for families. The 2022 Toyota Sienna is the latest revamp of the 2021 complete redesign and I cannot wait to show you all its features. No matter what car I’m walking through, the question stands: is this vehicle family-friendly? Spoiler Alert: it absolutely is!

If you’re new here - welcome! I’m Kelly the Car Mom and as a CPST, mom of three, and overall car lover it’s my mission to help you find the perfect vehicle for your family. Without any further introduction, let’s get started discussing all the reasons to love the 2022 Toyota Sienna.

2022 Toyota Sienna Exterior

This exterior is not my favorite. Although minivans are not the most sleek out there, this one looks a lot like a bullet. It feels like a lot coming at you. As a whole, the exterior is not that imaginative in design (I mean the front grill has nothing unique about it). The angles just feel awkward. Although the exterior shouldn’t be the only reason to pass on a vehicle, I much prefer the Kia Carnival’s look.

Also, I don’t always mention my experience driving vehicles, usually it’s great, but the ground clearance is definitely going to take some getting used to in this vehicle. Also, the doors aren’t that big. Other than that, it’s honestly what you expect from the exterior of a minivan - the interior is really what makes it.

Before we actually talk about the interior features, I want to discuss how it looks. We’ve got embedded chrome on the doors and a really pretty gray leather inside. Two cup holders and nice little cubby areas make quite an elaborate driver’s side door panel. In the XLE trim I have today, we are looking at an MSRP of approx. $45,000. It’s not top of the line, but it has everything I need in it (except ventilated seats). Overall, I’m more than happy with it as both a driver and front seat passenger.

Infotainment System

Starting off with the steering wheel when breaking down the tech on this vehicle, we’ve got great controls including: blind spot monitoring, automated cruise control, and bluetooth. As for the dash, I love the hybrid integration and how it visually shows you when the battery is in use. If you know anything about Toyota, it’s that they make a good motor so it’s fun to look at and see how your car is working.

As for the display, it’s a good size and has everything you could want in it. I’ll be honest, I wish it was a bit more integrated, I just don’t like how the overhang looks. Mechanically, it’s super easy to use.

2022 Toyota Sienna Second Row

Before we talk about the second row seats, let’s discuss the doors that get to them. Obviously, the crown jewel of minivans are their sliding doors and the Sienna offers a ton of ways to open them. You can do it from the key, door handle, and sitting in the passenger seat. There’s even a kicking motion that opens them! It’s really hard to top minivans and their drop off capabilities.

Let me be clear, the 2022 Toyota Sienna is a three car seat across powerhouse. With a ton of different car seats, I am able to install them without problem. I will say since minivans are shorter than SUVs, the head clearance to buckle up your kids is not the best. It’s not awful, but important to mention.

One thing I really like about the Sienna is how the second row is on tracks that can move back about 18 inches. Hello! I’m looking at third row access without having to adjust the seat. The biggest complaint I have about the third row is the door doesn’t open enough. I just wish it gave me a few more inches of room for both car seat install and third row access. Other than that, the bench seat is excellent.

When it comes to accessing the third row, you’ve got a couple of options available. If you don’t have three car seats across, you can just move the second row up and squeeze into the space. You can also choose to utilize Stow and Go!

In the third row, we have three sets of lower and tether anchors, so you’ve got every install available for a car seat. I installed a car seat using tether anchors because it’s my preference, but both work well.

As far as amenities go, USB and USB-C ports, but also the tiniest cupholders imaginable. It would barely fit a RedBull. We’ve got ceiling vents back here (huge plus) and decent knee clearance for passengers. Bonus, you can recline these seats for an even better car seat install. Overall, I’m impressed.

2022 Toyota Sienna Trunk

I’m really excited about this trunk! Even with a massive double stroller, there is room to spare for a trip to the grocery store. What more could you ask for? I love minivans because their trunks are really deep, so you’re able to work with a lot more space available than what SUVs offer. If you choose to utilize the Stow and Go seat features, you’re looking at even more space to haul almost anything.

2022 Toyota Sienna Wrap Up

It’s no secret I absolutely love minivans for families, so the 2022 Toyota Sienna lives up to all my expectations. With excellent second and third row car seat install options, plus a trunk that fits a giant double stroller, there’s not much more you could ask for. Although this isn’t the most fashionable of the minivans out their exterior-wise, the reliability you get from Toyota is worth it in my opinion.
