2021 Volkswagen Tiguan SEL Tour & Review

I took a look at the highly requested 2021 VW Tiguan! The Tiguan comes in both a 5 and 7 seat option, the one I am looking at is a 7 passenger. I understand VW's thought process behind offering a 7 passenger car without the huge SUV feel but this third row is a miss for me. It can only be used by children and if you have a car sear in the second row it makes it all the more difficult to access and utilize that third row. The third row feels like an unnecessary after thought to me. It was uncomfortable, had a cupholder on one side and was difficult to get into. So the 7 passenger Tiguan is going to be a no for me. If you need a third row, I’d opt for the VW Atlas. HOWEVER the 5 passenger (or just keeping the third row down) makes the Tiguan a really great option.

The 2021 VW Tiguan has a starting MSRP at $25,245 at the most basic S trim and can get up to $39,095 with the highest SEL Premium R Line trim.

A few things I liked about the Tiguan is it’s clean and simple interior (makes for easy cleaning!!), the easy to use infotainment system, the spacious seating & trunk space(not including the third row of course), and the overall handling of the vehicle. A few cons for me include the teeny-tiny center console, the cramped third row and the basic and boring exterior.

As far as car seat set up is concerned, the bench offers two lower anchors and 3 tether anchors. The third row offers nothing, not that you would be able to access anything back there anyway!

Let’s talk safety! The Tiguan comes with quite a few standard safety features including backup camera, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, collision warning, automatic emergency braking, and pedestrian detection. Optional features include parking sensors, rain-sensing windshield wipers, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and surround-view parking camera system.

All in all, if you are in the market for a 5 passenger compact SUV I definitely think the Tiguan is worth taking a look at!
