2022 Honda CRV Touring

I would not buy this car if you have more than two children. And maybe not even for two.

The Honda CR-V is one of the most popular five-passenger small SUVs and I was so excited for the chance to tour it for you. The CR-V got an update in 2017 and will be redesigned again in 2023 so this tour will apply to the 2017 to 2022 models.

This 2022 Honda CR-V has some nice lines on the exterior, though overall, the car is pretty basic. I’m really looking forward to the 2023 update. Also, the Honda logo is dying for a refresh.

Front Row

Before we jump into the front seat I have to mention the engine in the CR-V. It has a CVT engine, which isn’t for everyone. I don’t love the drive until I’m going over 60MPH. So make sure you test drive it and take it on the freeway.

Sitting in the front seat, I’m loving the wood details on the door. It’s beautiful and really elevates the look. We have power seats on both the driver and passenger seats in this Touring trim level. The 7” touch screen display is really nice and I love that climate control is pulled out. It also has a wireless phone charger that is easy to access but I’m pretty sure if I take a sharp turn, my phone is going to flying. It also has two USBC outlets and for a five-passenger car the center console is pretty good size and has a few different cubby areas in it.

Second Row

Jumping into the back seat I have great head and knee clearance, especially for a smaller SUV. With my rear-facing car seat I still have a couple inches between it and the front seat, which is set for a tall driver. The amenities are nice and comfortable. I have a door cup holder, vents and two more cupholders in the center armrest. The seatbelts and car seat set up is where things get a little wonky.

Car Seat Set Up

The CR-V has five lower anchors in the backseat. This extra lower anchor lets Honda claim they are more car seat friendly, but in reality it doesn't really do anything. Because of the placement of the anchors and the seat belt buckle there is almost no way to safely have three across or even a carseat in the middle seat and an adult in an outboard seat. The seatbelts cross, which is a big no no in terms of safety.

Trunk

In this Touring trim level, we have a power tailgate for the trunk. My compact double stroller fits great back here. And in case you’re deciding between the Honda CR-V and the Toyota RAV4, keep in mind, the CR-V has two more cubic feet than the RAV4. It’s one of the roomiest five-passenger SUVs in terms of cargo space.

Trim

The Honda CR-V is available in five different trim levels, with Touring being the most equipped, and a hybrid option. The Touring gives you all the bells and whistles like a heated steering wheel, 7” inch display screen, wireless charger and power tailgate. Honda doesn’t gatekeep any of their safety features so you can expect all the great crash prevention technology Honda offers on every trim level.

I think this is one of the best five-passenger small SUVs on the market. It’s an IIHS top safety pick and has excellent crash prevention technology. I love it for smaller families, but it’s really not ideal for families with more than two children. If you’re thinking about buying a new CR-V you might want to consider waiting if you can for the 2023 model to come out. I think it’s going to have some great upgrades from the 2022.
